Ezrah

Ezrah is a modern spelling of Ezra, a Hebrew name associated with help. Ezra is the name of a biblical priest and scribe connected with the return from Babylonian exile. The final h gives Ezrah a different appearance, but it does not add a separate meaning or establish this spelling as the standard form of the biblical figure’s name.

Ez is a possible family short form, though Ezrah itself has only two syllables. Ezra is the closest comparison for parents who prefer the familiar scriptural spelling. Families considering Ezrah can preserve the connection while choosing the added letter intentionally, knowing that listeners may need the spelling clarified when the name is spoken.
