Fallon

Fallon comes from an Irish surname associated with the personal name Fallamhán. The often-given meaning “leader” is a shortened explanation of that older name; the surname itself expresses descent from a person bearing it. This distinction matters because Fallon is not simply the modern Irish vocabulary word for a leader.

The character Fallon Carrington in Dynasty helped establish the surname as a recognizable first name for girls in English-speaking audiences. It has also been used for boys, reflecting the broader movement of surnames into first-name use. Phelan is sometimes offered as a stylistic alternative, but it belongs to a different Irish name history and is not a masculine spelling of Fallon.
