Fisher

Fisher is an English occupational surname describing someone who catches fish. Its use as a first name can preserve that family surname or suggest a connection with fishing. The occupation is the most direct explanation, rather than assuming the name originated from the animal also called a fisher.

Fischer is a related surname spelling to compare, although a family’s inherited form may be the reason to choose Fisher specifically. Actor Fisher Stevens offers a recognizable example of the name in professional use. Parents may also select it to honor an angler in the family, a personal association that works without claiming the child will follow the same occupation.
