Forest

Forest is the English word for a large area of trees, used directly as a given name. It also overlaps with the surname form Forrest, which can have a place or occupational background. The single-r spelling keeps the ordinary nature word most visible, but the two forms do not acquire different gender rules from that letter alone.

Actor Forest Whitaker is a familiar bearer of this spelling. Forrest provides the closest comparison for families preserving a surname, while Forest emphasizes the landscape word. Both have two syllables in ordinary English, and neither needs a longer formal name to explain its use.
