Gabrielle

Gabrielle is the French feminine form of Gabriel, a Hebrew name traditionally interpreted as God is my strength. It belongs to a large international name family, while its French ending gives it a different rhythm from Gabriella. Designer Coco Chanel, whose given name was Gabrielle, is a familiar bearer of the full form.

Gabby, Bri, and Brielle offer shorter options with different sounds. Gabriella adds an ending that usually creates another syllable in English, whereas Gabrielle often places the emphasis near the end. A family can choose between the forms to preserve a language connection or an inherited spelling while keeping the same older name history.
