Georgianna

Georgianna is an expanded feminine form in the George family, closely related to Georgiana and Georgia. The Greek root behind George is geōrgos, meaning farmer or someone who works the earth. Its meaning belongs to that occupational word, even though later bearers have given the name many different associations.

The doubled n gives Georgianna a visible Anna ending, which helps explain why Anna can work as a familiar form alongside Georgie. Georgiana, with one n, is the spelling associated with the eighteenth-century Duchess of Devonshire, so that aristocratic reference belongs to a close relative rather than an identical spelling. Georgianna also has a substantial history in older English-language naming.
