Gigi

Gigi is an affectionate name used with several longer names, including Gabrielle, Georgiana, and Genevieve. Because those names have different origins, Gigi does not have one meaning that applies to every bearer. The interpretation God is my strength belongs specifically to the Gabriel and Gabrielle route, rather than to the repeated syllables themselves.

Model Gigi Hadid, whose given name is Jelena, illustrates how a nickname can develop through an individual family story instead of a predictable shortening. Gigi can also be chosen as a complete given name. Its appeal lies partly in that familiar, conversational shape, while a longer family name can provide a more specific meaning when one is intended.
