Grey

Grey is an English color name and an established surname. In modern first-name use, the color is usually its most immediate meaning. Grey is the spelling more commonly used in British English, while Gray is common in American English; both are understood as referring to the same color.

The one-syllable name can stand on its own or be used as a short form of Greyson. That longer surname has its own history and should not supply the definition of every person called Grey. Families may choose the color association, a family surname, or the concise sound. Grey’s meaning does not prescribe a particular mood or personality.
