Gryffin

Gryffin is a modern spelling of Griffin, a name with a Welsh surname route and a separate association with the mythical griffin. The Welsh family is related to Gruffudd, whose second element means lord or prince; the first element is less certain, so strong lord is a possible interpretation rather than a fully secure translation.

The mythical creature combines a lion's body with an eagle's head and wings, giving the name vivid imagery independent of the Welsh derivation. Gryffin has also been used as the stage name of an American music producer. Together these connections give the exact spelling a modern cultural presence while its wider family reaches back into Welsh names and European storytelling.
