Gwen

Gwen is a Welsh name element associated with whiteness, fairness, or blessedness. It can stand alone or serve as a short form of longer names such as Gwendolen and Gwendolyn. “White circle” describes a traditional interpretation of a longer compound, rather than the meaning of Gwen by itself.

Singer Gwen Stefani is a familiar bearer of the independent name. Guinevere offers another longer connection, although each full form has its own history and additional elements. Gwen’s single syllable gives it a compact shape without losing its Welsh identity. Choosing the short form directly preserves the shared element while leaving out the rest of a particular compound.
