Helios

Helios is the Greek word for the sun and the name of its divine personification in Greek mythology. He is traditionally pictured driving a chariot across the sky, with the daily journey of the sun expressed as a story. His siblings Selene and Eos represent the moon and dawn, placing the family within a larger picture of the heavens.

In the Odyssey, Helios's sacred cattle play an important part in the fate of Odysseus's companions. That literary background makes Helios a name with both a direct natural meaning and a distinctive mythological identity. Parents may value the sunlight association, the classical stories, or both. Its Greek ending is more explicit than in some related modern forms, so the ancient connection remains immediately visible.
