Hendrick

Hendrick is a Dutch form in the broad Henry name family, related to Hendrik. The older Germanic elements refer to home and rule or power, usually combined as ruler of the home. Its final ck is part of an established spelling tradition rather than an extra word added to the name.

Dutch artist Hendrick Avercamp, known for winter landscapes and skating scenes, gives the spelling a particular connection with art history. Hendrik and Henrik are close forms used in neighboring European traditions, while Henry is the familiar English relative. A family choosing Hendrick may be preserving a Dutch family name or preferring the fuller consonant pattern. Its historical background extends well beyond the modern brand associations the name can also evoke.
