Henri

Henri is a French and Finnish form of the Henry name family, ultimately derived from Germanic elements meaning home and ruler. It is an established language form, not simply an English Henry with a fashionable final letter. The underlying meaning remains the same even when the name crosses languages.

Artist Henri Matisse gives the French form a particularly recognizable cultural association through his paintings and cut-paper works. French and Finnish speakers do not pronounce Henri identically, so the spelling alone does not settle its sound in a multilingual family. Henry offers the familiar English counterpart, while Heinrich makes the older Germanic connection more visible.
