Hollie

Hollie is a spelling of Holly, the English plant name. Holly trees are known for their evergreen leaves, and many familiar varieties have bright berries, giving the name a clear botanical image. The word has a long English history, rather than being a recent invention based only on the sound of other names ending in ie.

Its association with winter decorations can make Hollie a seasonal choice, but it is used for children born throughout the year. The spelling Hollie preserves the same plant connection while taking an ending familiar from affectionate personal names. Holly is the closest form to compare, particularly if a family wants the botanical word to be immediately visible. Neither spelling requires a longer formal name behind it.
