Iliana

Iliana is an established feminine form of Ilias in Greek and Iliya in Bulgarian, names belonging to the Elijah family. Through that route it carries the Hebrew meaning “my God is Yahweh.” It is also sometimes associated with forms of Helen, so the spelling alone does not establish one history for every bearer.

Iliyana and Ilina are related Bulgarian comparisons. Names resembling Iliana can be connected with Helen, Elijah, or other traditions, making the original language especially helpful when tracing a family name. The familiar claim that every Iliana means “from Troy” is not a reliable explanation of the documented Greek and Bulgarian personal-name forms.
