Ilyana

Ilyana can be understood within the Bulgarian Iliyana and Iliana family, feminine forms related to Iliya or Ilya. Those names belong to the Elijah family, whose Hebrew meaning is traditionally expressed as my God is Yahweh. Different ways of representing the original names in Latin letters help account for several similar spellings.

Another nearby name, Ileana, follows a different history through Helen, so a family's intended connection is important. For the Ilya-related route, the biblical prophet Elijah provides the older religious background. Ilyana gives that family a feminine form with a flowing ending, while Iliyana makes the Bulgarian relationship especially visible. Parents choosing it to honor an Ilya can explain that specific link rather than relying on a single meaning applied to every look-alike name.
