Isadora

Isadora is the feminine form of Isidore, a Greek name combining the Egyptian goddess’s name Isis with doron, meaning “gift.” Its interpretation is therefore specifically “gift of Isis,” rather than a general gift from any deity. Isidora is another established spelling in the same family.

Dancer Isadora Duncan gives the name an important artistic association. Fiction offers several different bearers, including Isadora Wing in Fear of Flying and Isadora Quagmire in A Series of Unfortunate Events. Isa, Dora, and Izzy allow different everyday forms without changing the formal name. Unlike Isabella, which it resembles at the beginning, Isadora has a Greek formation and a distinct religious history.
