Jamar

Jamar is an established modern given name often described as an adaptation of Jamal, the Arabic name meaning beauty. That connection is a common explanation of its formation, rather than evidence that Jamar itself is an ordinary Arabic word with exactly the same meaning. Its development belongs especially to English-language naming in the United States.

The name has a cultural history of its own through bearers such as singer and songwriter Jamar McNaughton, known professionally as Chronixx. This exact given-name use helps distinguish Jamar from the many longer names that share its opening letters. Jamarr is a closely related spelling, while names such as Jamarion need their own explanations. Parents may choose Jamar for a family connection or a particular bearer without needing to treat every similar-sounding name as interchangeable.
