Jeffery

Jeffery is an established spelling in the Jeffrey and Geoffrey name family. The older name reached English through Norman French, with a Germanic second element meaning “peace.” Its first element is less certain and may reflect more than one earlier name, so a single confident translation such as “God’s peace” can oversimplify the history.

The spelling places the e before the r, distinguishing Jeffery from Jeffrey on the page while often leaving the spoken name unchanged. Jeff is the familiar shorter form. Geoffrey makes the older spelling tradition most visible and connects the wider family with medieval figures such as Geoffrey Chaucer. Jeffery is therefore part of a longstanding name family rather than simply an accidental rearrangement of letters.
