Jessie

Jessie has several histories as a short or independent name. It can come from Jessica, and Scottish usage also connects it with Jean. Some bearers use Jessie as a spelling of Jesse, which has another biblical background. These routes do not supply one agreed meaning for every Jessie, making a family's intended longer-name connection useful.

Jess is an easy further shortening, while Jessie itself works comfortably as a full given name. Writer Jessie Redmon Fauset supplies a notable literary association through the Harlem Renaissance. The ie ending is familiar in English nicknames, but it does not make the name temporary or incomplete. Parents can choose Jessie directly or use it to honor a specific relative.
