Jonathon

Jonathon is a spelling of Jonathan, a Hebrew name usually interpreted as “the Lord has given.” The biblical Jonathan, son of Saul and friend of David, provides the name's best-known scriptural connection. The final on in Jonathon changes the English spelling without changing that name family or meaning.

Jon is a straightforward short form, while Jonathan is the closest full-name comparison. Although John and Jonathan are often grouped together in everyday conversation, they have different Hebrew constructions and meanings. Jonathon should therefore not be explained merely as a longer John. Its specific spelling can honor a relative while keeping the biblical origin of Jonathan clear.
