Juliet

Juliet belongs to the Julia and Julius name family, whose oldest meaning is uncertain. Explanations involving youth are traditional interpretations rather than a settled translation. The name’s best-known English association is Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, where Juliet is the young heroine.

Juliette is a related French spelling, often pronounced similarly by English speakers. Julia offers a shorter alternative, and Jules or Julie can work as nicknames. Families choosing Juliet for its literary connection may appreciate knowing that its name history extends beyond the play. The story, sound, and written form can each be a different reason for the choice.
