Karsen

Karsen is a modern spelling of Carson, a given name adopted from a Scottish surname. The surname’s exact derivation is uncertain, so the frequently repeated translation son of the marsh-dwellers is not a secure literal meaning. Its established family-name use is firmer than that proposed explanation.

Carson has recognizable historical and cultural bearers, including conservation writer Rachel Carson as a surname bearer. Karsen keeps the sound of the given name while changing the opening letter and the final vowel. Karson is another close spelling choice. For a family using the name to honor a Carson relative, the intended connection can be very specific even where the surname’s earliest linguistic origin remains unresolved.
