Keller

Keller is a German occupational surname associated with the person responsible for a cellar or storehouse. In that historical setting, the cellar held provisions and supplies, so the name points to a practical role in the running of a household or institution. Its meaning comes from work and responsibility rather than a description of the landscape.

As a first name, Keller keeps the familiar two-syllable shape of many surname choices. It can also serve as a tribute to Helen Keller, the deafblind author and activist whose surname is widely recognized. A family connection and an admiration for her work would be separate reasons to choose it; neither changes the older occupational meaning. The spelling works as a complete given name without an expected longer form.
