Kenny

Kenny is a familiar form of Kenneth, also used as an independent given name. Kenneth represents more than one Gaelic name tradition, which explains why meanings such as handsome and born of fire appear together in references. They are alternative historical routes, not two words that literally combine to form Kenny.

Kenny Chesney and Kenny Loggins both illustrate the nickname relationship, having been born Kenneth. The South Park character supplies a separate fictional association. Kenny keeps the two-syllable rhythm while replacing Kenneth’s final consonants with an ee ending. Families can use the short form directly or retain Kenneth if the longer name’s family history matters to them.
