Kingsley

Kingsley began as an English surname from place names formed with words meaning “king” and “meadow” or “woodland clearing.” Its meaning refers to land associated with a king, rather than translating simply as “royal” or “ruler.” That history gives it both a surname style and a quiet landscape connection beneath its more obvious regal sound.

Writer Kingsley Amis is a notable bearer, and Kingsley Shacklebolt provides a fictional association through the Harry Potter books. The name is used for boys and girls, with the same underlying origin. Lee is a straightforward shortening, while some families use Kings. Kingston shares part of its vocabulary and its surname feel, but it is a separate name meaning a king’s settlement.
