Kody

Kody is a spelling of Cody, a name taken from an Irish surname. One surname source is Ó Cuidighthigh, “descendant of the helpful one”; another is Mac Óda, “son of Odo.” Because more than one family name became Cody in English, the helpful meaning is a genuine connection but not the only possible surname history.

The K changes the name’s appearance without usually changing its pronunciation. Cody remains the most direct surname spelling, while Kodey and Codie are other forms to compare. Kody has been used for boys and girls and is short enough to use without a nickname. It can suit families who want an informal-sounding name with a traceable surname background.
