Lacey

Lacey comes through an English surname associated with a place called Lassy in Normandy. The surname history is separate from the English word lace, even though that word gives the modern first name an additional visual association. A family choosing Lacey as an inherited surname may therefore have a different reason from one drawn to its sound.

Lacy, Lacie, and Laci are close spelling comparisons. Actress Lacey Chabert is a recognizable bearer of this exact form. The name’s two syllables do not require a longer version, and its place-derived history gives it a more specific background than simply describing it as delicate or ornamental.
