Lacy

Lacy is a surname name associated with Lassy, a place in Normandy. Families carrying the surname brought a geographical identity into later English usage, and the surname eventually became a given name for both boys and girls. Its origin is therefore a place-name route, even though the spelling also calls to mind the English word lace.

That textile association can influence how Lacy feels to modern readers, but it is separate from the surname's history. Lacey and Lacie are related given-name spellings that offer the same familiar sound in different written forms. Lacy retains the compact surname appearance and can preserve a family connection alongside its more recent use as a first name.
