Langston

Langston is an English surname used as a given name. Its place-name history has been explained through elements associated with length and a stone or settlement, depending on the particular origin. That uncertainty is separate from its strongest cultural association: the poet and writer Langston Hughes, an important figure in the Harlem Renaissance.

Lang can work as an informal shortening, although the full two-syllable name is practical on its own. Langton is a related-looking surname to compare, while Landon shares some sounds without being interchangeable. Parents may choose Langston for a literary connection or an inherited family name, with either story giving it meaning beyond a disputed place-name translation.
