Ledger

Ledger is both a surname and an English word for a book of records, often financial ones. The surname has been connected with an older Germanic personal name, while the ordinary word offers a separate route for modern parents. These explanations should not be treated as one universal meaning or a certain occupation for every ancestral Ledger.

Actor Heath Ledger supplies a strong surname association, and the name also appears for a character in Ingrid Law’s Scumble. Its two syllables make the full form manageable without a nickname. Parents choosing it for a family connection can keep that story distinct from the record-book image or a tribute to an actor.
