Legend

Legend is an English word name with two familiar senses. It can mean a traditional story handed down over time, or a person celebrated for remarkable achievements. Those meanings give the name a narrative and aspirational character, rather than an older family-name translation.

Singer John Legend is a recognizable association, although families may be drawn to the ordinary word without intending a tribute. Story, Fable, and Saga are names with related storytelling themes, but they are not alternative spellings of Legend. The usual English pronunciation is LEJ-und, with two syllables. Parents may want to consider how the achievement-related sense feels alongside the family surname, since it is part of what other people are likely to hear.
