Lenna

Lenna is an Estonian feminine form of Lennart, which belongs to the Leonard family. Its older elements combine lion with brave or hardy. The compact form preserves the beginning of the longer name, giving it an established linguistic history beyond its resemblance to Lena.

Estonian singer Lenna Kuurmaa is a recognizable bearer who has helped give the name a contemporary musical association. In this tradition, Lenna is a complete name rather than merely an informal nickname. The double n distinguishes it on the page from Lena, a spelling that can come through other name families such as Helena or Magdalena. Keeping that distinction makes the lion-related history more precise for a family choosing the Estonian form.
