Lettie

Lettie is traditionally a familiar form of Letitia or Lettice, names connected with the Latin word for joy or gladness. It has also become an independent given name. That older relationship gives Lettie a clear meaning, although a family using it as a nickname for another longer name may have a different explanation.

Letty is the closest spelling comparison. Lettie appears in Howl’s Moving Castle, while the film Letty Lynton uses the alternate spelling. The two-syllable form can preserve an old family nickname directly, or sit alongside Letitia as the everyday version. Its history is more specific than simply sharing the ending of other vintage nickname names.
