Lili

Lili has more than one established use. It can be a short form of Elisabeth and other names containing the same sound, especially in French, German, and Hungarian naming. It is also connected with the flower word lily, including German lilie. The intended route determines whether a family explains it through a longer name or directly through the flower.

That flexibility gives Lili a history beyond a simple modern spelling change. A Lili named for an Elisabeth may carry that family name's traditional oath-to-God meaning, while a floral Lili has a different story. Its repeated letters give the name a compact appearance, but they do not reduce these separate histories to one universal definition.
