Liliya

Liliya is a lily name used in several Slavic-language traditions, including Russian, Ukrainian, and Bulgarian. It belongs to the international family of flower names related to Lily and Lilia. The ending -iya represents the sound of forms written in Cyrillic, so the spelling reflects a language tradition as well as a choice of flower.

The lily has many cultural and religious associations, but the name’s direct meaning is the flower itself. Liliya offers a longer, more flowing form than Lily while keeping that botanical connection clear. Lilia is another Roman-letter form a family may encounter, and the preferred spelling often depends on language or transliteration practice. For families carrying a Slavic name into an English-speaking setting, Liliya can preserve more of its familiar written sound.
