Linkin

Linkin is a modern spelling associated with Lincoln, the English city name that also became a surname. Lincoln’s older place-name history combines a word for a pool with the Latin term for a colony or settlement. That gives Linkin a geographical background through the older spelling, even though its present-day appearance feels distinctly contemporary.

The band Linkin Park creates another recognizable association and may be the direct inspiration for some families. Lincoln offers the more traditional city and surname spelling, while Linkin makes the musical connection more visible. The two can sound very similar in conversation, so this is a choice where the story behind the spelling matters as much as the spoken name.
