Lizeth

Lizeth is a Spanish-language short form associated with Elizabeth, whose Hebrew ancestry gives the traditional meaning my God is an oath. It keeps a recognizable part of the longer name while giving it a compact form of its own. The Elizabeth family has a biblical history, but Lizeth is a later development within that wider tradition.

Lisette and Lizette are related forms worth comparing, though their endings do not look or sound identical in every language. Actor Lizeth Selene provides a contemporary example of the exact spelling. A family may choose Lizeth to remember an Elizabeth while using a name familiar in Hispanic communities. The shortened form carries that connection without requiring the longer name on official documents.
