London

London is a place-name used as a personal name, referring most immediately to England’s capital. The city name’s oldest meaning is uncertain. Its familiar geographical identity is therefore a more reliable explanation than a confident translation of ancient elements.

Londyn is a modern spelling alternative, while London preserves the city’s standard English form. A family may choose it for a birthplace, ancestry, travel memory, or sound. The name is used for boys and girls without a different ending. Its two-syllable form can stand independently, and a meaningful personal place connection does not require a settled ancient etymology.
