Louella

Louella combines Lou, often connected with Louise, and Ella. Louise belongs to the Louis family, traditionally interpreted through elements for fame and battle, while Ella has several possible origins. Combining every proposed meaning into a phrase such as “battle famous fairy maiden” creates a definition the name does not actually possess.

Louella has documented use well before modern combination-name fashions, including nineteenth-century American records. Luella is a closely related spelling that joins the sounds more compactly. The Lou spelling keeps a possible tribute to Louise especially visible, and Lou can remain a familiar short form. A family's intended honor connection explains the combination better than a complicated invented translation.
