Luella

Luella is a spelling of Louella, usually understood as a combination of Lou and Ella. Lou can connect it with Louisa, whose Germanic background refers to fame and battle. Ella has more than one history, however, so elaborate translations such as “famous warrior of light” are not established meanings of the combined name.

The shorter Lu- spelling keeps the same main sound while removing one letter from Louella. Lu, Lulu, and Ella can each function as familiar forms, depending on which part of the name a family emphasizes. Luella’s history in older English-language naming gives it a vintage character, but its combined construction remains more informative than any single romantic phrase offered as a translation.
