Lucinda

Lucinda is an elaboration of Lucia, which belongs to the Latin name family connected with light. Its extended ending gives it a different rhythm from Lucy or Lucia while preserving that central association. The name has a long literary history, including its appearance in Cervantes’s Don Quixote.

Singer and songwriter Lucinda Williams provides a familiar modern artistic connection. Lucy emphasizes the older root, while Cindy draws on the middle and ending, giving the full name two quite different everyday possibilities. Lucinda can appeal to a family seeking the meaning of Lucy in a more elaborate form. Its literary and musical associations add context without changing the simple light-related meaning at its center.
