Lucio

Lucio belongs to the Lucius name family, traditionally connected with the Latin word for light. Its history differs from Luke and Lucas, which relate to a place-name tradition, and from Louis, whose Germanic root has another meaning. Sharing the opening Lu sound does not make all those names members of one etymological family.

Pronunciation varies by language: the c in the Italian form is read differently from the c in Spanish forms. Lucius offers a comparison closer to the Latin written shape, while Lucia belongs to the related feminine family. The language a family uses at home can therefore be as important as the meaning when choosing Lucio.
