Luxton

Luxton is an English place and surname name, associated with small places in Devon. The usual explanation combines the personal name or surname Lugg, linked with the older form Lugga, and an element meaning a settlement. Its history is therefore that of a place connected with a particular person or family.

The x and familiar ton ending also make Luxton appealing as a modern first name. It may remind parents of Luke, Lucas, or the Latin word lux, but those similarities do not establish the older surname’s meaning. The place-name story gives Luxton enough history of its own. It can work especially well as a family surname carried forward, with the full form remaining short enough for everyday use.
