Lynette

Lynette has an Arthurian literary history through forms related to the Welsh name Eluned. The older name is often connected with an image or idol, although its development through several languages makes a simple translation less secure. Alfred Tennyson used the spelling Lynette in his poem Gareth and Lynette, giving this exact form a clear literary landmark.

In modern use, Lynette is also understood as an elaboration of Lynn, so families may reach it through different naming paths. The poem belongs to Tennyson's retelling of Arthurian stories, where Lynette travels with Gareth and judges his abilities. Lynnette and Linette are related spellings, while Lynn offers a straightforward familiar form for everyday use.
