Malek

Malek is a spelling used in the Arabic Malik name family, commonly associated with the meaning “king.” Latin-letter spellings can represent different Arabic vowels and naming conventions, so the original language form provides more detail than the English spelling alone. The royal meaning is the clearest explanation for the Arabic route discussed here.

Actor Rami Malek makes the spelling familiar as a surname as well as a given name. Similar forms appear in other language traditions, but a Dinka cattle name or a Greenlandic word should not automatically be assigned to every Arabic Malek. Malik is the closest comparison for this name family. Distinguishing the traditions avoids turning several unrelated meanings into one composite definition.
