Marcelina

Marcelina comes from the Latin name family built around Marcus. Through Marcellus and Marcellinus, the family developed feminine forms including Marcellina and Marcelina. Marcus is traditionally connected with Mars, the Roman god of war, although the deeper derivation is not entirely certain. “Warlike” is consequently a familiar interpretation rather than a complete literal translation of every form in the family.

Marcelina is used in languages including Polish, Spanish, and Portuguese, with pronunciation shaped by each language. Its longer ending distinguishes it from Marcela while keeping the relationship visible. Lina or Marcie can provide a shorter form, depending on the family’s language. For parents honoring someone named Marcel, Marcela, or Marcus, Marcelina offers a related feminine name with its own established international history.
