Marianna

Marianna is commonly understood as a combination of Maria and Anna, used in several European languages. Anna carries the Hebrew meaning “grace” or “favor,” while Maria’s ultimate meaning remains uncertain. The combination can therefore honor both names without yielding one proven translation such as “beloved grace.” Its meaning depends partly on the family connections chosen for each component.

Mari and Anna offer two obvious everyday forms, and Annie gives another familiar option. Marianne is a closely related combination with a different ending. Mariana, written with one n, can overlap in modern use but also has a separate history through Marianus, so the two spellings should not always be treated as interchangeable.
