Marielle

Marielle is a French and Dutch diminutive in the Marie name family. Marie comes through Mary, whose earliest meaning is uncertain; beloved and bitterness are among the proposed explanations. The ending elle creates a familiar expanded form rather than adding a new word with its own literal meaning.

Mariel offers a shorter written comparison, while Mariella changes the final sound and is familiar in Italian naming. These forms allow a family to keep a Mary or Marie connection while choosing the version that suits its language and naming tradition. Marielle should not be treated as a combination of Mary and an unrelated name solely because the final syllable resembles Elle.
