Maven

Maven is an English word for someone with deep knowledge or expertise in a subject. The word reached English through Yiddish and ultimately comes from a Hebrew form associated with understanding. As a name, it therefore offers an intellectual meaning rather than describing a particular profession or academic qualification.

Its resemblance to Maeve and Haven helps it fit familiar English naming sounds, but those names do not supply its origin. Tracy Morgan’s choice of Maven for his daughter brought public attention to its use as a given name. It can be chosen for the value a family places on curiosity and learning, while remaining a complete word name without an expanded formal version.
